Oregon faces short staffing and not enough customers to inject 1 million booster shots

Oregon officials are still working out details on how they will get 1 million booster doses into the arms of Oregonians by the end of January in the scramble to head off a feared surge of the omicron variant.

Gov. Kate Brown announced the ambitious goal just last Friday after getting an alarming new forecast that predicted that Oregon hospitals might not have enough staffed beds by early February because of the new Covid variant.

But that goal is daunting, requiring that vaccinators triple the pace of shots – provided enough Oregonians willing to get them.

This week, state officials had high hopes but few details of how that would get done.

The Oregon Health Authority promised to add three new high-capacity vaccination sites around the state in addition to the six that already exist. State officials don’t know where they will go, though.

to get my Pfizer booster. I tried Walgreen but there were no available Pfizer boosters within 25 miles this week it 25 miles was the max radius. So I tried CVS and it came back with no Pfizer appts. A local company. Tektronix, in Washington county, has a walk-in clinic open to the public that was supposed to open at 11am. I arrived around 10:30am and got into into the outside line with about 20 people ahead of me. Volunteeers eventually came out with clipboards and forms. They opened the doors around 12pm and I got my shot around 12:20pm.
.so other then hour delay on the opening it went smoothly. I'm glad I was able to get the booster. The line was quite long so it looked liked there were a lot of takers. The gentleman in front of me must have been in his 60's and was there for his first shot.

There weren't any other appointments within 50 miles. I can't stand for very long on hard surfaces, which is why I am waiting for an appointment rather than lining up somewhere. If I could find an appointment sooner, I would happily take it.

A friend had a booster appointment January 7 with her medical group, but she checked her local CVS on Monday and they had a cancelation that afternoon, so she nabbed that appointment and she got her booster in time for the holidays.

There tend to be lots of cancelations/no shows around the holidays. Keep trying.

Pouring rain and the line goes on forever, and whatever reason, Oregon people do not use umbrellas. I get it with misty rain, but showers gets one wet. Anyway, I am a courier and stop by there were the lab is often thru the day. I was wondering why so many in line. I thought the shot had been available for a while and easy access, free. But I guess there has been issues, I don't know. Anyone know what is up let me know. I asked but didn't really get the answer.

Anyway, this will be going on for a while. I also saw fair grounds set up too.
