City Planning Commission greenlights $1 billion Astoria development on waterfront
By Clare Trapasso / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
A proposed $1 billion development that would bring luxury housing, a park and shops to a desolate stretch along the East River in Astoria moved one step closer to becoming a reality.
The City Planning Commission on Wednesday unanimously greenlighted the plan by Lincoln Equities to reconfigure portions of the Astoria peninsula at 1st St. to allow for the Halletts Point project.
This proposal reflects the citys continuing commitment to build smartly on its shore front and improve public access to the citys magnificent waterfront, said Commission Chair Amanda Burden.
The seven-building project, near the public housing development Astoria Houses, is slated to create about 1,600 luxury and almost 500 below-market-rate housing units.
