Poll: In New York, Clinton, Sanders best all in GOP

Albany
New York's reputation as a true-blue state was reflected in the findings of a new Quinnipiac University poll that shows Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders beating all three of the remaining Republican contenders in hypothetical general election match-ups.

And both beat GOP front-runner Donald Trump by more than 20 percent, according to the poll.

The survey of state voters also shows Clinton ahead of Sanders 54-42 percent among likely Democratic primary voters, while Donald Trump leads among likely Republican primary voters with 56 percent, followed by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas at 20 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich with 19 percent.

"The home-court advantage helps both party's front-runners," said Quinnipiac spokesman Maurice Carroll.

Clinton represented New York in the U.S. Senate from 2001-2009, while Sanders' roots in Brooklyn are apparent to anyone who has heard him speak. Trump, of course, is a Queens native who has built his corporate brand in Manhattan's high-powered real estate industry.
