Gov. Holcomb apologizes for not wearing mask in Brown County

Gov. Eric Holcomb apologized to health care workers Sunday, the day after a photo was posted on Facebook showing him posing with two other people, none of whom were wearing masks.

In a statement to IndyStar, the governor called it “a lapse in my usual vigilance.”

The photo was tagged as at Hobnob Corner Restaurant in Nashville, Indiana. It was posted on Saturday, just one day after Holcomb announced his weeks-long plan to reopen businesses shut down by his stay-at-home orders.

While the original photo is now either deleted or marked as private, that didn’t stop outcry from others on Facebook who shared screenshots of the original post, often with the two other people’s faces marked out.

Critics wrote that the governor was trying to win the votes of those who opposed his moves to slow the spread of the coronavirus by mandating social distancing, the wearing of masks and the stay-at-home order. They also wrote that Holcomb wasn’t leading by example.
