It looks like a good idea but I did some reading and I am not sure about it. The League of Women's voters is against it.

(6,849 posts)It limits appeals and collateral attacks in death penalty cases and does not guarantee rights of accused. Current law is strong for victims rights without hurting the accused.
League of Women voters against it. Liberal organizations oppose it.
I agreed with league of women voters on everything except gambling.

(6,849 posts)When in doubt, vote no. (Not trying to be smug. Its what I pound into my head every time I read the amendments.) It will be hard to reverse a constitutional change once approved.
Another rule I have for myself is that if I dont understand its plain meaning on the first read, I vote no.
This year the amendments bundled too many things into one. This is unconstitutional. They only threw out one Amendment for not sticking to single subject but several more could have been challenged.

(6,849 posts)Charlie Crist put in place an application process to restore rights. He signed off on a couple hundred thousand. Once Scott got in office, it trickled down to a few dozen restored rights. That's why we need the Amendment.

(88 posts)Victims' rights are already included in the FL Constitution. What 6 does is remove from the consitution a provision that restricts victims' rights from violating the rights of the accused.
2ndly, it raises the age of retirement for judges from 70 to 75.
And, it prohibits courts determining the constitutionality of a law from seeking information about the law from the agency that uses it.
This is a bundled amendment that hopes victim rights carries the other stuff to victory. Bundling in FL is actually illegal, but the state supreme court didn't have a problem with it.
