Red Line service was suspended Tuesday afternoon in part of Northwest Washington because of a track problem, officials said.
At about 4:50 p.m., officials said train service was suspended between the Van Ness and Dupont Circle stations because of a track problem between Dupont Circle and Woodley Park.
A Metro spokesman said the closure was related to a report of smoke or fire on the track. Crews were at the scene to investigate.
It was the second time Tuesday that Metro has suspended service on part of the Red Line. Trains were halted for more than an hour, from Friendship Heights and Van Ness stations, during the morning commute because of a reported insulator fire in a rail tunnel.
