Like living in a war zone: Washington-area residents say increased helicopter traffic is giving them nightmaresThe helicopters typically come in threes.
As the first one flies by, the walls of Kathy Daniels Bethesda, Md., home start to shake. When the second follows, the chains on the metal lamps in her living room begin jangling. The brass lamp her father brought home from the Bahamas goes clink, clink, clink. The lamps with sailboat finials make a boing, boing, boing sound.
Then the third one goes by, and at that point my nerves are rattled, said Daniel, 63, a retired communications expert who has lived in Bethesda for more than 30 years. Its loud enough where I cant think straight. It makes my heart pound, actually I can just feel my blood pressure going up.
The cacophony lasts at least three minutes and repeats over the course of the day. Helicopters fly over Daniels home in the morning, about noon, in the evening and again late at night. Monday through Friday. The air traffic was not always this bad, Daniel said. As best she can estimate, it got much worse starting three or four years ago.

(10,135 posts)There were black helicopters over our mountain at least once a day sometimes 3 times a day. They would come in the middle of the night and wake me up. I think they were looking for cannabis fields. They sometimes directed lights into our woods. But they never found anything. They slowly decreased throughout a 2 year period. They finally stopped altogether about 10 years ago.
Bunch of idiots wasting our tax dollars.

(6,222 posts)apparently it hasn't occurred to anybody to see what direction they're flying and where they might be headed or coming back from. Seems pretty helpless to me.

(6,640 posts)reroute the airport traffic at night to let the people who live nearby sleep in relative peace. But we hear them a lot more.
