A friend and neighbor who runs our local Democratic group was able to speak with Michael Vu, our Registrar of Voters. Here is information she passed on to me.
I didn't write any of the following. It's copy, cut and paste.
Our Registrar of Voters, Michael Vu, discussed how he and his team at the Registrar of Votes in San Diego will implement the state mandate to mail a ballot to every active registered voter for the November 3rd Presidential election, while also offering physical voting places for those who will need or want them.
He was also available to answer questions about voter fraud concerns, ballot harvesting, what happens after the ballots get to the Registrars Office for counting, and other voting-related topics of interest. This presentation was fascinating! And it raised my confidence level quite a bit regarding how our ballots will be counted. Their office is staffing up for upcoming efforts, and he got into detail about what was needed and how they are meeting that need.
BOTTOM-LINE COMMENTS VIA MICHAEL VU:
CALIFORNIA WILL COUNT BALLOTS THAT ARRIVE 17 DAYS AFTER THE ELECTION THIS YEAR SO LONG AS THEY'RE POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 3RD.
IT MAY TAKE 2-5 WEEKS TO COMPLETE THE COUNT.
IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL HE SIGNS OFF ON THE COUNT.
THE PRESIDENT HAS LITTLE TO NO POWERS OVER ELECTIONS.
ANY PREMATURE DECLARATION OF VICTORY WILL NOT END THE COUNTING.

(51,569 posts)I never did before and have not changed my address. Glad to know SD is on top of the this and will continue to count votes despite what the fucking moron declares.

(9,641 posts)I have no choice but to put my ballot in the mailbox, as they moved our polling place. I don't have a car so I can't go wherever it's going to be. It used to be in walking distance. But the building is very small and they cannot use it for social distancing reasons.
Thank goodness California gives us our ballots way ahead of time. I will have it in the mail the day after I receive it, with extra postage. And I will be tracking it the entire time.

(51,569 posts)but all are within walking distance, I live in Hillcrest/Univ Heights so I can walk to many places. I must have had 15 different polling places in the past 30 years that I have lived at the same location. I wonder why they do that?
I will drop it off in person as I usually do since I LIKE voting. I have sheets of "I voted" stickers in 4 languages (left over from when I was teaching...my students loved voting too). All of my dog's stuffed animals have "I voted" stickers on them since she always walked into the polls with me and the workers would give her one too since she was a cutie.

(1,732 posts)I've always chosen to vote in person, as I like to bring my son with me so that he sees me vote and learns the importance of voting at each and every opportunity when he grows into adulthood.
