Man loses legs after being hit by rail train in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES

Authorities say a man lost his legs after he was struck by a rail train in Los Angeles.

KCBS-TV reports (http://cbsloc.al/2xOt1FB ) Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Herrera says the incident took place just after 2 p.m. Sunday in Chinatown.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart says the man was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

A Los Angeles Police Department desk officer says it is unclear if the man was trying to kill himself or whether he was involved in an accident.

1. The phrase "hit by a rail train" seems to blame the train.

The train was on its tracks, where it belongs, traveling in the manner in which it is supposed to travel and in which any reasonable person would expect it to travel, on private property which belongs to the company which owns the train. It did not leave the tracks and go looking for a man to hit. The man was on the tracks where he did not belong, doing what he was not supposed to be doing, on private property which did not belong to him. He put himself in front of the train.
