It doesn't feel right to not have a James Joseph Gandolfini tribute in the TV forum.

Dude was fantastic to watch on the Sopranos. In my opinion he's in the top 5 of actors in my lifetime on TV.

I'd say--- Carroll O'Conner--- Alan Alda, James Gandofini, Bryan Cranston, and Martin Sheen.

I'm watching The Sopranos the third time through and finding Gandolfini's work as brilliant as ever. It wouldn't be fair to omit David Chase for creating, and nurturing, the character of Tony Soprano. But no one could have brought him to life like Gandolfini.

"Whitecaps," the final episode of season four. The episode begins with Tony as loving family man and ends with him emotionally drained after his marriage falls apart. Denial, frustration, rage, bemusement ... Gandolfini hits on all cylinders. It's a fantastic display.

And his performance of that character, of course, was a huge part of the reason why it worked so well. I'm looking forward to working my way through the series again sometime in the months to come. He'll definitely be missed.
