I'm glad to see so many people taking on the Skyler haters. Some ass on the R.S. site calls everyone who discusses this "gay." I'm sure it's an attempt at humor, but it's honestly a sad reflection on too many males. If a guy cannot understand why someone would like dick - well, I would imagine that person thinks that sex in general is all icky, but lacks the self-reflection to understand the depths of misogyny that requires - or maybe the massive homophobia we see too often in American society is from guys who are afraid of their own unresolved attractions - but it's telling when someone cannot accept or someone who demeans someone else's sexual attraction - as if the worst thing in the world is to be "like a girl" who likes dick. I feel sorry for any female who ends up with a guy like that, honestly.
I know this because I've written about her sympathetically; I may as well have written COME AT ME, BRO in all caps. Remember when Walt bullied and bullshitted his way back into their home in Season Three, daring her to rat on him, knowing she couldn't? Remember how awful and gross that was? I called that one of Walt's lowest lows; some commenters felt differently. "That was a friggin' high point for Walt, it showed he STOPPED being a pushover to his overbearing wife, and started fighting back." Because Walt had been such a milquetoast up until that point? "[What about] men who don't want women to kick them out of the houses they bought with their money? What legal right did she have to kick him out? none! Good on Walt for 'brutalizing' his wife into obeying the fucking law and letting him use his own hard earned property." Well, we certainly wouldn't want anyone on Breaking Bad to disobey the law.
This kind of reaction is not uncommon, for Skyler in particular and for women often wives on top-drawer TV dramas in general. Characters like Skyler become targets of vituperation unimaginable to their male counterparts, most of whom engage in vastly more destructive and immoral behavior every episode. By failing to indulge every whim of the the male antiheroes around whom their shows are built, the women become obstacles to those men getting exactly what they want when they want it at all times, which is the core fantasy of antihero fiction. Cold cunning, ruthlessness, rage, self-interest, a propensity for physical violence we gender these unheroic characteristics as male, and celebrate them; passivity, bitterness, grief, emotional enmeshment, a knack for attacking and deflating egos we gender these unheroic characteristics as female, and loathe them.

(23,796 posts)I am betting termites get into the bubble tent and reinfest the cook houses.

(1,374 posts)from the cook process. Notice how Walt and Jessie always wear full hazard suits and respirators.
Besides, they have much bigger worries. The new pest control crew could leak info. The possibility of their transportable lab getting discovered in a police stop. Or, even a home owner finding something left behind or perhaps the smell in the kitchen which they enclosed in a medical-type tent. Seems pretty risky to me and wide open to possibilities that could disrupt their new operation.
I'm guessing the real issues coming up will be between Walt and Mike and their power struggle. At the end of the episode Walt insinuated that he's learned a whole new cold-bloodedness from his experience with Gus.

(28,784 posts)Is going to cause Jesse to think Walt has lost his shite. Every time Walt says something that's just incredibly full of hubris - Jesse just looks at him like.. wtf.
I think the final remarks at the end of the ep. - when Walt talked about what happened to Victor - Walt is p.o.-ed about the "hazard pay" that's coming from everyone's share. But if Walt hadn't brought down Gus, none of the guys would be in prison...
Walt didn't seem to have the slightest clue about the real operating costs of a criminal enterprise.
Anyway, I think Mike and Jesse will stage a mutiny against Walt - don't know what will cause it.
I don't know what Skyler is going to decide to do.
Next ep is Walt's birthday. Skyler doesn't seem to excited about it.

(1,374 posts)and I'm sure everything will eventually come out about how Walt poisoned Brock and what happened to Jane. That would cause Jesse to revolt and we know he seems to like Mike so a team-up there is a good possibility.
Skyler obviously can't live with a murderer or live with herself for profiting off the criminal enterprise. That's going to blow up in a big way.
I see this final season slowly turning us viewers against Walt as our "protagonist" anti-hero. I think he's going to finally pay a big price for breaking bad.
RainDog
(28,784 posts)Is to always have an antagonist for Walt who is more cold hearted and cruel than he is. Now - Walt is that guy.
I wonder how he ended up with a car and driver's license with NH plates and who he's going after with that purchase at Denny's.
I don't think that part of the story will actually play out until next season - or maybe start at the very end of this one.
If Walt wants to get rid of Mike, he's gonna need to meet Lydia.

(1,374 posts)...this is the final season.
I agree about the very first cold open scene this season with Walt and the big gun he purchased. That's probably what will play out in the finale of the series. It's definitely a future event because Walt looked different. Had different facial hair I think. I can't wait.
RainDog
(28,784 posts)they called it all the "final season" but it really comes down to 6 seasons with two short seasons at the end. The first season was short too, b/c of the writer's strike.
The others are standard cable 12 or so eps.

(1,374 posts)Next summer? Geesh, I hope it's not that long of a wait. Bummer.
Oh well, I'll just enjoy it while I can I guess.

(23,796 posts)I was first surprised that Walt and Jesse didn't break everything down and pack it away, but then realized, no, they have to protect everything from the termite bomb. They can't take it with them. So might as well leave it for the Vamanos Pest crew to do. If termites get in while they're watching the Stooges, then zip, they're in the tent enjoying the same protection from the pesticides as the equipment.
Of course this might be just one more thing Todd saves their behinds on, ingratiating himself further with Walter.
And people hated the fly episode.
