I agree with Wiki. They do a service we all use but don't pressure us. TreasonousBastard Dec 2021 #13

streaming I only watch PBS. Great network. I love the Newshour and all of the BBC programing.

We have to support good programming - it is a rare commodity in today's world.

Used to be “pledge week” now it is three weeks.

What bugs me is that they had nice program like a Roy Orbison documentary which included parts that we’ve never seen, and Andrea Bocelli in Central Park but after 20 min program there would be 10 min begging. How many timed can they repeat that one will get one CD for a donation of $60 and 2 CDs for $100?

Worse, donate if you want to view these programs except they show “these programs” only during the pledge.

And BTW I do donate, responded to mail solicitation several months ago.

per hour permanently, plus advertorials, sounds like a bargain.

But, admittedly, public broadcasting should be public, so Congress must be involved.

And, a lot of the shows that air during their fundraising seem more like infomercials by snake oil sakesmen.

Yyou get to see numerous performances by what’s left of decrepit doo-wop bands. And of course more singing and dancing by beautiful young Irish women than you’ll ever see anywhere else. Contribute at the $250 level and you’ll get the 6-DVD set!

If enough people donated and then self renewed every year on their own, along with more public funding allotted, they could stop
Really nothing is free and I don’t miss the commercials that make the $ up on other free channels 52 weeks a year
That’s commercials and product endorsements for 52 weeks 24/7

I cautiously gave them a few bucks. I don’t mind giving support to things I use and approve of once in awhile when I can afford to. But it seems like anytime I do I get swamped by further requests from the same and similar entities. It makes me hesitant to give a donation. Political fundraising is some of the worst. So far wiki took the donation, thanked me, and is leaving me alone.
