Turned out that trying to watch early 70's TV, featuring Monoaural Sound ... on a new 65" 4K TV with a 5.2.4 Atmos sound system was ... just not tenable for me lol. I admit, I have become spoiled

I hope many others totally enjoy it ... I have very fond memories. Garner is a personal hero.

If they ever do a restoration like they did with Star Trek TOS, maybe I could watch 'em again!

with sound and picture. I know, Tom Selleck, but the show was darn good at times. Anyhoo, I noticed today they put up Rockford, but haven’t watched one yet. Probably later.

Yeah, I really love the guy too, James Garner. He was a damn good actor and Rockford Files is super nostalgic and it shows California back in the 70s which is cool. I’m sure you know he did most his fight scenes and then he screwed his knee on one and he was limping a lot.

I think he thought he looked like him, which I guess he did a bit. But he also loved his image.

I have an Oakland Raiders ticket from 1978 from a game my dad took me to, and as you may recall Jimmy was a Raider fan and used to be on the sidelines all the time for their games back in the day. Anyways said ticket is signed by James Garner, we waited by the tunnel and my pops called him over and I told Jimmy G about how I was named after one of his characters. He gracefully signed my ticket for me and hung out a bit and chatted. Quite thrilling.

Sig's very faded but you can kinda make it out.

CBS Mysteries or something like that. It was either Columbo, McCloud, or Rock Hudson McMillan and Wife. McCloud was excellent too.

And there was a lot of Perry Mason TV movies in the 90s that were pretty good.

There is a remake series with Queen Latifah that premiers after the super bowl. Looking forward to that.

They had the parking brake handle between the bucket seats back then, and somebody from the Bondurant Racing School taught him how to do those J-turns using the parking brake.

And Rocky was great. When Rockford got grazed by a bullet on the side of his head, Rocky said if it was an inch to the right you could have lost an eye or worse, and Rockford said but if it was an inch to the left it would have missed me completely. Rocky got up out if his chair like he was going to smack him.

Great show. A lot of celebrity guest stars.

A couple fight scenes I remember are good lessons, too. In one, in the bathroom at a bar I think Jimmy pulled off his belt and quickly wrapped it around his hand to punch with. Protects the knuckles! Another he tore off his jacket and covered his hand and arm to use against a knife fight. Another good one!

As I browsed the shows on my new Roku teevee that I bought yesterday. I did, I bought a new teevee after all these decades (4) without one.

But I have a few questions about some things I want to watch, like news, that I am finding less than expected so far, maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

I'll probably catch a couple episodes of Rockford Files, I did like the show when It was on.

Live local news can be had on NewsOn. Search on the Roku search and load that “channel”

Also, search and find Pluto. It has some National news channels along with a ton of shows.

On the NBC News “channel” you can watch highlights from all the MSNBC shows, usually next day. If you still have a cable TV subscription, you can watch all of them live on the NBC app.

We turned everything off and just have Internet. Also, Disney+ and YouTube Premium.

I have discovered these things and have come to the conclusion that I have to pay one of them to provide access MSNBC programming that isn't the highlights reel. I got this thing to stop using my aging laptop for watching it on unreliable live streams. I would watch other stuff but I'm thinking that perhaps I should have chosen a new laptop instead.

I haven't activated the utoob app, I couldn't find it at first. I downloaded several free apps and browsed through them and found the few things I would want to watch the most are on the paid side. I guess I can check that out but I'm kind of disappointed about that part since I had to buy a teevee to find that out. I bought the smallest one I could find and it's kind of big for my little dwelling, I might just take it back and get a new laptop instead.

Thanks for the info, it helps to have someone who uses Roku, I have used it while staying with friends but did have much info in setup and such.

PS, I gave up and went to bed shortly after I posted that.
