Related: About this forumA few photos from the LA Museum of Natural History--the Butterfly exhibit.
My husband and I went today, and it was beautiful. Hot and a LONG walk to and from our car, which nearly did us in...but we made it.
Anyway, hope you enjoy! No labels since I don't know what any of them are, including the flowers.

(2,608 posts)The Boston Science Museum has one and I had a colorful shirt on. The butterflies were all over me. It was magical.
Your pics are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for posting.

(149,570 posts)We saw a great many Blue butterflies with the most amazing blue wings...but they never sat down so I couldn't get a shot of the color.
Such is life. I'm glad you enjoyed my photos.

(6,579 posts)(Sure wish I could send some of our weather over there to cool you off a bit, but I don't think the flowers and butterflies would like the overnight frosts.)

(149,570 posts)We were sweating like crazy by the time we got back to our car, so I ran the a/c full blast nearly all the way home!
We are way more comfortable now, after naps and lunch.

(149,570 posts)The only thing I know about the flowers is that the butterflies love them.

(7,343 posts)Hi Peggy! Beautiful pictures, I think I can help with IDing a few! The first flower picture is a cosmos, the fourth picture the moths with eyespots are probably a type of polyphemus. This fifth picture the yellow flowers are milkweed. I hope that helps. I planted three milkweed plants two years ago when I started my garden when I moved down here and now I have milkweed everywhere, it is, literally, a weed. But monarchs love it, the weeds are crawling with caterpillars (and aphids, unfortunately, but they suck on the milkweed only and leave my other plants alone!
So generally where is the LA Museum of Natural Science? That's one museum I haven't been to yet down here.

(149,570 posts)I thought maybe the first flower was a cosmos! Love 'em.
The fourth photo shows a blue butterfly with the wings folded so the blue is invisible. It's a stunning color. I REALLY wanted to get one of those but they were too active.
So the yellow ones are milkweed! I really thought that photo turned out pretty well. Glad you have some in your yard!
The Natural History Museum is near the Coliseum. Here's a link: https://nhm.org/
The museum itself is closed, but the Butterfly Exhibit is open through the first week of October.

(149,570 posts)It's hard for me to be objective about my own work. I didn't get what I'd gone to get, so I see these with a slightly jaundiced eye!
I appreciate your lovely words very much!
