Just what we need, more pictures of KITTENS.

My first "formal" portrait of the kittens we are rearing. From top to bottom they are Grace, Gonzo ad Goose.

Bad week .. Good week
I have posted previously about how my lovely wife and I started rescuing bottle baby kittens 15 years ago while living in Aruba. Last month we took these 3 in at about 2 weeks of age.

Last week we received a call from the humane society asking if we could take in 3 more. These 3 new ones were survivors from a litter of 6. They were just starting to walk a bit.

2 days later we had to have our 16 year old Maine coon, Missy, euthanized.

The next day one of the new kittens could only push with it's back legs, it's front pair under it's body. We took it to the clinic and were told it had neurological damage and didn't survive. They told us to keep an eye on the other 2.

On Monday another suddenly displayed the same symptoms and seccumbed hours later. They took back the last survivor to keep it in the clinic. We have not heard about what happened with the 3rd but we are almost positive it also did not survive.

So basically I have been pretty crushed for the the last week but I carry on. I still have 3 wonderful kittens to care for. (We are going to keep Grace) And besides the thousands of photos in my archives, I still have thousands of photos to take.

Oh yeah, and I still have to vote to get Joe elected

Didn't make it. It always hurts when precious kittens die.

Good on you for fostering the most vulnerable of kittens, the bottle babies.

It's people like you guys that makes me feel hope about humanity.

May Bast and Sekhmet walk with you and your wife protect and help every sweet kitten that comes to be helped by you and your kind hearted wife.

At least they got to have real loving care for the last few days of their lives. Thank you both for what you do.

Your story has so many similarities to my 2020. My maine coon of 19 years passed away in March. It was the toughest loss I had experienced in a long time.

Currently we are making sure a mama cat and her litter of four are doing well. We’re pretty sure she gave birth on Saturday, when she “disappeared.” When Mama reappeared on Monday, she had two cute kitties in our backyard. Fortunately, My partner realized his car had lots of new fur that it did not have before...which led to a search for more kittens. After disassembling multiple engine parts we were lucky to have been able to reach her other two kitties, and found them abandoned but still living! We reunited the family and are keeping our fingers crossed that they survive and thrive.

Hoping the best for your kitties!

Back in April, my wife had a stray cat start rubbing up against her while she was outside watering the plants. Turns out she had moved under some stuff out on the back porch and had 5 kittens. It took a while to get their trust and move them inside full time. But in the mean time, she'd gotten pregnant again. A week ago last Sunday she had another 6 kittens.

Of course there is a massive trip to the spay/neuter clinic planned for the little ones, and mama cat is going as soon as she weans this batch.

Meantime; anyone interested in a kitten or two???

Kittens experience many different hardships before they come to those of us who foster them. As a foster mom for kittens, you can only do your best for them. I had four kittens that came into my care. One died within hours of my getting them. Two days later, one died of failing kitten syndrome which was a very traumatic experience. The remaining two kittens are 8 years old and continue to live with me. I am glad you are adopting Grace. She will be a great addition to your permanent family!

Rest in peace, Missy! I am sure you left many happy memories behind you to be enjoyed in the future.

11. As I always told foster parents when their efforts couldn't change the inevitable: Sometimes

Our job is to be there at the end...they died, not alone in hostile elements, uncared for, their passing unnoticed...they died with a human who cared about them, important, they mattered. They had so much more than otherwise.

I recently had to have a kitten euthanized at about 8 weeks old. What a sweetie! I noticed some oddities, but didn't recognize what I was seeing...the very subtle first signs of seizures. I have a cat on phenylbarbitol, but kitty's seizures didn't respond and finally left him incapacitated. But he left this world having been pampered, the center of attention, loved. Sometimes that's our job.
