Indigenous to NC, don’t see why they wouldn’t grow there in Cali
There is a Pacific Dicentra

I love those so much! I had some long ago, in a galaxy far away.

Haven't had a yard in years, but would definitely plant some of this if I did.

My Mother always had a Bleeding Heart plant in her flower gardens in Montana.

I grew them in pots for years and they were always a reliable bloomer and harbinger of spring!!!!
