We saw The Chicks last night!

Tix were a birthday present from my husband at the end of June. Concert was initially supposed to be in August but was postponed because Natalie Maines caught Covid! So anyway it was postponed, so we dutifully trekked to the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD, along with thousands of other fans, to see our ladies onstage. Had to endure a group called Wild Rivers, from Canada, first, and I will not comment further on them. Then an intermission punctuated by old (like 90s!) videos during which husband and I played "who the hell are these people?" but we did recognize a few of them, most notably Tina Turner at her shimmy-shakin' finest.

Then The Chicks came on, and what a show they do put on, from the opening "Ready to Run" to finishing almost two hours later (there was a short break) with, of course, "Goodbye Earl", it was an amazing show, from the lighting to the jokes to the videos and all the songs old and new. They did their newer protest songs, "March March" and "Stand Up (For Her)" toward the end, and the videos for those are powerful. Followed that one not long after with "Not Ready to Make Nice", the one they wrote after they were criticized for comments they made about G.W. Bush to which everyone sang along! Best concert I've been to in a long time. The audience was all ages, from little girls tricked out in cowboy boots and rhinestones (one sat in front of us with her dad, who patiently escorted her during breaks to the restroom and snack bar) to us old folks and couples and groups of all ages and several genders. It was peaceful and fun and not at all rowdy and just a little noisy but in a good way. Great stuff and worth seeing if you can score tickets when they come to your area.

"Dixie" is fairly innocuous, they should have kept that Shermann Sep 2023 #3

and the overreaction to that seems utterly ridiculous now, with how unpatriotic, anti-democracy and pro-American-enemy (Russia) the same screechers about the Chicks have become. They were excellent musicians and put on a great show.

No band name is perfect, Dixie Chicks is as good as any.

OK, "Queensrÿche" is the perfect band name. But only because of the French umlaut thingamajiggy.
