My F-I-L, grew up in East Orange, N.J. His uncle was projectionist at one of the movie houses in Newark. Big Bands played there during the 30's and his uncle would bring him to the projection booth the hear the bands.

I never asked him which bands he heard but I'm sure Sinatra would have played there when he was with Dorsey.
