And, before he became famous, the guitars were barely modified for his technique. He did nearly all of it himself.
When he became well-known, guitar companies & luthiers were running him ragged to work with them.
He started having guitars built, modified to suit his unique technique.
He said if he had that stuff earlier, he might not have worked as hard, because it was now so easy.
So, he did all that hard work, and now, not only does it come easy, but playing is easier.
