Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumFavorite albums from 1974
We old timers had the greatest music, didnt we? Huzzah! 1974 brought a lot of albums to our music collection that we have really enjoyed
although we didnt buy em all that year. My tastes run jazz to rock to prog rock to?, and that year we got
Apostrophe (Zappa)
Court and Spark
Bridge of Sighs
Not Fragile (BTO)
Mysterious Traveller (weather report)
Lamb Lies down
Where have I known you before (Weather Report)
Ring (Gary Burton)
The Power and the Glory (gentle giant)
And many other good ones.
Like I said, jazz and prog rock fan, my fave 10 from that year might be-
Andy Nogger (Kraan)
Borboletta (Santana)
The Colors of Chloe (Eberhard Weber)
Down to Earth (Nektar)
Kohntarkosz (Magma)
Mirage (Camel)
Phaedra (Tangerine Dream)
Red Lanta (Art Lande)
Rock Bottom (Robert Wyatt)
The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage (Peter Hammill)
Witch-Tai-To (Jan Garbarek, Bobo Stenson Quartet)
Tale of the Giant Rat of Sumatra (Firesign)
Im probably missing a couple great ECM releases. Who says my top 10 list can have only 10, huh?
What are some of your favorites from 74?

(65,196 posts)A BTO album. Fragile, by Yes, came out in '71. Close To The Edge in '72. The great live album Yessongs (my fave) was recorded on the CTTE tour.
I think the '74 album was Relayer. That was after Wakeman left, replaced by Patrick Moraz.
All that said, Not Fragile was a solid straight ahead rock album.

(1,340 posts)Quite a few of them have been in my collection, too.
I wanted to add Brothers and Sisters (Allman brothers), but that was from 73; and Physical Graffiti, which was recorded in 74 but not released until Feb 75. Close but no cigar.

(2,845 posts)Is Pretzel Logic - Steely Dan, didn't see that mentioned.
Interestingly, there was no Pink Floyd album released in 74. That was between Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here.
Good thread!
