Prosperity Quilt

This is a famous Texas quilt made by a teen in the depths of the Depression. The maker, the late Fannie Shaw, stated that Hoover kept saying "Good times are just around the corner". Mrs Shaw was a sixteen year old when she started this quilt. I don't know how long it took her to make it. It is in the Textile collection at the Dallas Museum of Art. It is not on display, but about 15 or 20 years ago, it was displayed along with other 1930 and 1940 quilts. I was fortunate to see this quilt at that time. The quilt blocks show the butcher, the baker and other workers peeking around the corner, looking for the good times. The last block in the quilt shows Uncle Sam arriving with bags of money, aid to Farmers and legal beer.

What is happening now with the Covid-19 virus made me think about this quilt. I am would like to make a quilt to memorialize this terrible time we are in right now. I am going to start collection news, images, quotes etc. to make a quilt. I will not make this quilt until a vaccine is available and we are out of this crisis.
