Anyone do wood mechanical models?

I've gotten hooked on these laser cut metal and wood models that are on the market...I prefer the ones that do something once their together...walk, run...some really neat automobiles and truck kits...No glue, unless you break
something...Snap together..and they stay that way after I've played with them...Steel springs and rubber bands are the primary source of movement..although I just finished up one that has a tiny solar panel on it...Do a google on wood mechanical models and you'll find a bunch of different brands..ugear..rokr..wood city....Excellent for the parents and kids to work on together...This is the one with the solar panel...

And I only remember seeing a feature on it. I could not find it in a google search.

But what impressed me is the Ironwood bearings never needed lubrication-ever.
That would be a fun one & they do have wood clock kits-but they are not hugely accurate to my knowledge.

Have fun!

What I really want to learn is how to make gears out of wood without a laser cutter or other expensive machine. I use mostly hand tools. So, I would guess it would be possible. I also really want to learn to make wooden screws. I use dowels a lot when I make smaller woodworking projects, but I would love to be able to make wooden screws. I have seen YouTube videos on how to make wooden nuts and bolts, but I wish there was a way to make hardwood wooden screws that are self tapping, for my projects built in pine. I think that would be interesting.

I do wish I could get a laser cutter though. I want that and a 3D printer. I could build just about everything I need that way, except maybe a new car. I'm wondering if someone will come up with a way to make some kind of small car using laser cutters and 3D printers at some point. I could be steam powered or battery powered. I wonder if there would be a way to throw resin into the mix and make an actual internal combustion engine car....at home.

P.S. If you want to see a bit more of the laser cut woodworking models, there is a YouTube site where a guy does puzzles. He has done a couple of the laser cut puzzles that are more like mechanical wooden models.

I make gears on my CNC router for different projects.

Pictured are the latches I made for our vending trailer for the tailgate and tool and spare tire compartment.

I got the software here https://woodgears.ca/

You can print out on paper and scroll saw, or if access to CNC or laser export a vector dxf file.
