Four Legged Quilting Club

Since all the children have grown up and left home, I now have a room just for my sewing and crafting projects. I have been on a quilt making binge for the last 2 years and spend a lot of time upstairs making quilts. When I go upstairs to sew or quilt, my two dogs and calico cat appear out of nowhere, ready to go with me. They sprawl out on the floor around me while I work. I have never figured out why they like to be there with me, but I have named them my "Four Legged Quilting Club,. The club finished a red and white quilt top tonight; going to take it to the quilt shop to have it quilted. I love my little quilting club!

I don't quilt 'yet' (it's my list) but whenever I'm crafting, reading or wherever I go in the house I have my 'shadows'. Not all of the cats are this way but I have two 'extremely' curious and two of our rescues have separation anxiety and I'm 'it' for them now. <3

We're in the process of 'remuddling' our old farmhouse so it's more accessible for us as we age and if our disabilities worsen. It's all being done with the furkids in mind too so while I'll have a small sewing/laundry room where no furkids will be allowed inside I know my fuzzy 'shadows' will be upset so the door to that area will be a screen door for the dogs and on the hall side there will be a cat shelf at chair rail height for the cats to watch me (the top half will be lattice for more light/circulation and less claustrophobic).

I'm you have pictures of your quilts I'd love to see them. What's your favorite pattern to do?

I have made 12 quilts in the last 2 years. Don't have any favorite pattern, I do like red and white quilts, will photo the one that I just finished this week. The quilt with circles is Drunkard's path, but I did not break the circle, I call the pattern Sober Drunkard path. I made 2 of these with sweet flower prints and a child's version using Aunt Grace type prints. I have an antique quilt top that I have restored and had basted into a quilt. I have been hand quilting it.

Thank you for sharing them.

I think that the one on the right is my favorite. It looks like it's made from salvaged antique embroidered pillow cases and or hankies, is it?

I'd love to see the one you've just finished and the antique one when you're done. We inherited some old quilts but most were done purely for function not form and the majority are in very sad shape.

I've been sewing (hand and machine) all sorts of things for around 50 yrs, since I was pretty young. Although logic says I shouldn't be with that experience, I've always been intimidated by some of the amazing piecework involved in quilting. I've been telling myself 'someday' I'll make one for way to long but once my area is done I've made up my mind to try a small sampler as a living room pillow cover at the very least.

Sad week, we lost our dear Winnie, a sweet 13 year old pit-bull mix. I raised her from a puppy and she was my constant companion. It was a heart-breaking day to loose her, but she was sick and in terrible pain. so we had to let her go. I will always think about her when I sit down to quilt, she loved to be there with me.

I have four new members of the Four Legged Quilting Club. I am sorry to say that two of these newbies are not members in good standing. They are guilty of pincushion theft, interference of sewing and jumping on the quilt blocks, plus old lady toe attacks.
