It seems obscure, although another DUer told me it was on TCM. i feel like I want to see it, but don't do well with sad movies about animals. Thank you for responding

I know a lot about movies, but never heard of it. Its covered in the first episode of the series.

Its ranked one of Britain's greatest films.

See the list of films in the wiki link below. I've watched many of these films. They do share a certain feel. Youtube has full movies of some of these old films. Many of the actors became very famous.

Kitchen sink realism involves working class settings[7] and accents, including accents from Northern England.[8] The films and plays often explore taboo subjects such as adultery, pre-marital sex, abortion, and crime.

Kitchen sink realism (or kitchen sink drama) is a British cultural movement that developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in theatre, art,[1] novels, film and television plays, whose protagonists usually could be described as "angry young men" who were disillusioned with modern society. It used a style of social realism which depicted the domestic situations of working-class Britons, living in cramped rented accommodation and spending their off-hours drinking in grimy pubs, to explore controversial social and political issues ranging from abortion to homelessness.
