In the agreement to supply the dog, it was written into the contract that My Lady would belong to De Wilde after filming was completed.

Trivia: Mickey Rooney had to film all of his scenes in one month before he had to report for basic training to serve in World War II.

Trivia: Dame Elizabeth Taylor fell in love with King Charles while visiting the Rivera Country Club. He was acquired by MGM for $800 to appear in this movie with her. Elizabeth spent time each day riding, caring, and bonding with him in order to prepare for her role in this movie. King Charles was reported to be aggressive to his handlers except for Taylor. She and King had a special bond that became evident throughout the movie. At the end of the movie, Elizabeth found out that she had been gifted with "The Pie" and she and King Charles remained together until his death.

Trivia: Dame Elizabeth Taylor fell from the horse and broke her back during the filming of the racing scene. Although she recovered quickly, she suffered greatly later in life.

Depp thought the script was funny and strange, and took the offbeat role to avoid being typecast as a television teen idol. Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., and Jim Carrey were all considered for the role of Cry-Baby until Johnny Depp was cast.

Trivia: Frank Sinatra's career was struggling at the time and this was made during a period when the only time he did well at the box office was when paired with Gene Kelly. Two of his previous solo appearances, It Happened in Brooklyn (1947) and The Kissing Bandit (1948) did very poorly at the box office.

Trivia: Based upon a real-life trapper named John Johnston, nicknamed "Crow Killer" and "Liver Eater Johnston" for his penchant for cutting out and eating the livers of Crow Indians he had killed (several Crows had murdered his wife and he swore vengeance against the entire tribe). Trapper John Johnston's body was originally buried in the Veterans Administration cemetery in Los Angeles, CA. After the movie came out, Johnston's body was reburied at Old Trail Town in Cody, WY. Robert Redford was a pallbearer in the reburial ceremony attended by 2,000 people.

Lupino protested, and because she was a bigger name than Bogart at the time, she got her way. An angry Bogart shot off a telegram to Jack L. Warner asking, "When did Ida Lupino start casting films at your studio?"
