(44,585 posts)If that's a very young Ron Howard and a very old Harrison Ford, the movie was American Graffiti!

(16,992 posts)If it isn't obvious, I'll throw out hints, but somehow I don't think Graybeard will need any.
Graybeard
(6,996 posts)A perennial favorite this story has many versions as films and even more as TV mini-series. I believe this one to be a 1940s movie.
CBHagman
(16,992 posts)A 1940 adaptation of one of a work of literature has never been out of print and continues to attract generation after generation of readers.

(16,992 posts)1. It's a romantic comedy.
2. The cast includes no fewer than three Academy Award winners, though none picked up the statuette for this particular movie.
Graybeard
(6,996 posts)Supporting actors:
Top - Melville Cooper
Bottom - Edna May Oliver
The movie: Pride and Prejudice (1940)
It starred Oscar winners Greer Garson, Laurence Olivier and
Edmund Gwenn.
CBHagman
(16,992 posts)The cast also included the recently deceased Ann Rutherford (pictured).
A number of the actors were quite long-lived (Karen Morley, who played Charlotte Lucas, for instance), but at I think at present only Marsha Hunt (Mary Bennet) survives.

CBHagman
(16,992 posts)Both actors were instantly recognizable, and I had a couple of guesses as to the film, but both were wrong. Usually I don't look up cast lists on IMDB, but I did this time. I stopped short of checking both actors' credits, though.
The city, in which this film is set, plays a major role in plot development.
Graybeard
(6,996 posts)The actors: Robert Duvall and Robert Vaughn
The Movie: Bullitt (1968)
The city: San Francisco
The original story was based in Boston but Steve McQueen had that changed to San Francisco for the great car chase scenes.
Auggie
(31,231 posts)one of the all-time best chase scenes ever.

(16,992 posts)Actor at top is Christopher Lloyd. I don't recall the name of the second man.
Graybeard
(6,996 posts)The bottom pic is Scatman Crothers. You will remember him from Kubrick's The Shining.
Cuckoo's Nest (1975) was Christopher Lloyd's film debut.
It won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Screenplay.
Bolo Boffin
(23,796 posts)Devito did a revival off-Broadway in his part before the film.
I didn't know that Kirk Douglas played McMurphy in the original Broadway production. Gene Wilder was his Billy.

Auggie
(31,231 posts)Butch Cassidy: Alright. I'll jump first.
Sundance Kid: No.
Butch Cassidy: Then you jump first.
Sundance Kid: No, I said.
Butch Cassidy: What's the matter with you?
Sundance Kid: I can't swim.
Butch Cassidy: Are you crazy? The fall will probably kill you.
