I'm just finishing up watching Apocalypse Now, the real long one.

What a complex movie it is, no matter how many times I’ve watched it.

One thing about the screenwriter is that he really wanted to serve in Nam but had asthma, John Milius.

The thing is he went on to become a more extreme right wing guy, and maybe if he did do what he always wanted to do, to go to war and kill, and to experience his buddies dying around him, he would have ended up different, if he had lived.

I think of Chuck Hagel and other Republican war veterans who are not like let’s say, Hannity.

It says a lot about compulsory national service and the need for it.

Wasn't the "Redux" version, unfortunately, which I really wanted to see again.
