The new manager of an ice show plots to steal the owners business and his wife.

8:15 AM -- TOP SECRET AFFAIR (1957)
A female publishing magnate tries to keep a general she hates from securing a prestigious appointment.

Cast: Susan Hayward, Kirk Douglas, Paul Stewart

Under the title "Melville Goodwin, USA", the film was to star Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall - both of whom had already filmed costume and makeup tests - but Bogart's terminal illness forced his withdrawal from the project. He was replaced by Kirk Douglas. Bacall withdrew shortly afterward, opting instead to remain at home with her dying husband, and was replaced by Susan Hayward.

A policeman attempts to crack down on organized crime "protection" rackets.

Remake of The Adventures of Lieutenant Petrosino (1912). Pay or die is also the biography of Lieutenant Frank Petrosino.


12:00 PM -- POINT BLANK (1967)
A gangster plots an elaborate revenge on the wife and partner who did him dirty.

This was the first major picture to film on location at Alcatraz Island after the closure of the federal prison in 1963.

A young businessman catches his boss keeping a mistress in the company apartment.

Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland previously appeared in Klute (1971) also playing a strange couple. Both films were produced by Warner Bros.


5:45 PM -- THE CHINA SYNDROME (1979)
A television newswoman stumbles onto deadly secrets at a nuclear power plant.

When the film was first released on 16 March 1979, nuclear power executives soon lambasted the picture as being "sheer fiction" and a "character assassination of an entire industry". Then twelve days after its launch, the Three Mile Island nuclear accident occurred in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. It was commented how the events had left nuclear executives embarrassed with egg on their faces.

A gambler discovers an old flame in South America, but she's married to his new boss.

In the years since the film's release, many have noticed the strong indication in the final lines and situations of a homosexual undercurrent existing between Johnny and Ballin. Upon hearing of the interpretation, Charles Vidor reportedly said, "Really? I never had any idea those boys were supposed to be like that!" Glenn Ford has also acknowledged the gay subtext, "But it never occurred to us at the time we were filming."

A married matador's rise to stardom is complicated by an affair with a beautiful aristocrat.

A moralist sets out to reform the legendary South Seas floozy.

Nominated for an Oscar for Best Music, Original Song -- Lester Lee (music) and Ned Washington (lyrics) for the song "Sadie Thompson's Song (Blue Pacific Blues)"

Rita Hayworth was the third actress to play Sadie Thompson on screen, joining Gloria Swanson and Joan Crawford.



2:15 AM -- BLACULA (1972)
An African prince bitten by Dracula stalks the Los Angeles night in search of his lost princess.
Dir: William Crain
Cast: William Marshall, Vonetta McGee, Denise Nicholas
C-93 mins, CC, Letterbox Format

While the film was in its production stages, William Marshall worked with the producers to make sure his character had some dignity. His character's name was changed from Andrew Brown to Mamuwalde and received a background story about his being an African prince who had been turned into a vampire.

A vengeful Voodoo priestess brings the dreaded African vampire back to life.
