I watch a lot of the retro channels, and old movies on TCM, so questions of this type pop into my mind too.

Quite the dress she wore, and the jokes were light. Didn't they use writers back then? Even Bob Hope (that old Republican) had some corny ones and pretty lame some of them.

Jimmy Durante sat down for his song, guess he was old.

And Chrysler! They touted their engineering in the ads, but were known for not the best engineering. That's why their cars sold for a few hundred less than competitors (and $400 was maybe 15% of the retail sticker back then).
