When you draw with ink and watercolor washes the combination is really becoming quite distinctive of your style and amazingly pleasing and fulfilling to the viewers. There is a crispness in your ink drawing, and a softening in your washes that works perfectly together. Your freehand style and very simple line drawing is utterly charming. I love that you aren’t trying to define anything too much. Your economy of lines and simple washes work very well. This sketch is finished and complete as far as I’m concerned. Please leave it as it is!

of those things for the past 3 years. LOL

I do love this style, and I think its exactly right for my children's books, but I do still yearn to tackle tricky things too, like Wall art with wild fabric in it.

There is a misconception in art that many artists fall into. That’s that they need to stick to one way of doing their art. That’s not true. It’s actually very self destructive because we find ourselves fighting our own tendency to explore and our own natural desire to express ourselves. It’s like someone made up some random rules and we have to stick to them or else.

You can have distinctive styles that vary according to your themes or to your response to different media. I, for example, have one style when I draw and a completely different style when I paint. And both are equally important and both are challenging. I have an abstract expressionist style too, but I haven’t posted any of those paintings. I had my large abstract painting phase and while it lasted it consumed me. It was an incredible journey!

Just continue to do what you need to do. What inspires you and what challenges you and learn to be aware that what you do depends on the medium you use. But above all remember to honor your styles, your artistic desires and trust that you’re allowed to follow your dream, your star, your own personal path.

When you feel inspired to do your ink drawings do them. When you need to paint do that, and forget the words “I should” or “I shouldn’t”.

So well observed, but also loose and confident. I'm loving the red/yellow/blue color scheme, too.

size and shape, and also emotional connection.

The tall silver gold-etched chalice was a yard sale find. It’s dented and has its issues, but it still lovely and I claimed it for my own when it was no longer wanted. (No wonder it resonates with me.) The cobalt glass might be there because sapphire is my birth stone and one of my wedding colors. It’s hand blown and I love the depth of color in it and the smoothness of its shape. The wee purple one in real life has less red in it. It is wonky in shape because my bro blew that one. Like the res of the family, it’s a bit off but absolutely endearing.

Funny what turns up in our work, intentional or not.
