Looking for info on a chair

Hi everyone,

We were given this chair by a lady we bought some small art pieces from about a decade ago and it really needs refinishing, but we're not sure if it's something we should do or if this is a "nice" chair that should be done by a professional. We have no info on it other than the makers mark. The cushions were not original when we were given it, so they are long gone.

Thanks!

Don't refinish anything on that chair! mtngirl47 Mar 6 #6
Don't touch the finish. Have someone do new cushions. It's Mid-Century and a 'hot' item. sinkingfeeling Mar 6 #7

We looked up the company and the various catalogs we saw had chairs like it. In one catalog from 1961 it was listed for $59, which in 2024 would be around $600, so it was a pretty pricey chair in its day!
It looks very refinishable to us and we love modern but wanted to make sure we weren't ruining it or anything if we cleaned it up and put a new stain on it (or cleaned up the old one). We certainly won't be painting it! For the cushions we were going to go with a seafoam green.
Thanks for your replies cachukis, appreciate the info!

We had some similar when I was a kid, 2 chairs and couch set. My parents called it danish modern. I remember they were uncomfortable 🥴

It's a beautiful Mid-Century Modern chair----probably walnut. As is, it's probably worth $200 or more. With straps and even replacement cushions you can get into the $500+ range.

Just search on ebay for walnut, slat back original mid century arm chair.

Search for the straps that go in the seat area--pretty inexpensive. I have a couple of these type chairs and I buy cushions for outdoor furniture so I don't care if the dogs get on them.

My wife is a sewist and she will be making cushions with a sea foam green color. We're thinking of just using a wood cleaner for the finish.
