15 years old. Great cat. She and her older brother were the first pets I'd had in a really long time.
She used to crawl on my lap - she was Daddy's cat - so quietly I didn't even know she was there.
We were literally on the beach when we got the call from our cat sitter. In 30 minutes we were packed checked out an on the road. That was one tough 6 hour drive. Tomorrow we go the vet to take care of the arrangements.
Tough tough day.

(111,437 posts)She was a big Maine coon cat, so I don't know how she pulled it off, but I'd be sitting at the computer and I'd look down and there she'd be, snoozing in my lap, and I'd know she'd been there for a while but I hadn't felt her jump up.
Stealth lap fungus. Those are the best.
I'm sorry you lost your old girl. I lost HRH a couple of years ago at the age of 21. I miss her every day.

Saw a sign today on the pet store near our house:

(11,134 posts)We've had enough pets through the years that there is quite a pet cemetery in the back yard. Every time I have to bury a pet, I ask the same question: Is the love of a pet worth the pain of losing one. The answer is always an easy "yes, of course."

(7,703 posts)I lost my kitten (disclaimer: he was full grown) Mr. Tubs who ran out of the house and never came back on 9/11/15. I still look for him everyday. He was micro chipped and I did what everyone suggested. Sardines & litter box outside, posters, reporting to all animal Control, local SPCA, Pet Rescue facilities, and online pet finding services. I would love to find the little guy one day.

I feel your pain, and you are in my heart and thoughts.

(43,049 posts)I took mine on the last ride to the vet yesterday. She was in pain, and there was no treatment. Heard from the crematory today.
There is a period of profound grief when one of the furry family members passes. They are, after all, family.

(4,033 posts)The special ones, they take a piece of our hearts with them when they go. But, they leave a little piece of their hearts with us as well.
And, from the FWIW dept, I believe to the absolute core of my being, that if there is such a thing as an afterlife, then our furkids will be there as well. There is no way that beings who give and accept us to unconditionally and who give and accept unconditional love they way they do could not be.

(2,050 posts)I'm sitting here petting the Kittymonster AKA Poo, she's 15 and still thinks she's a kitten, she was rescued from a drug house and I took her home.
She's not a pet, she's family, she's the most un-catlike cat I've ever seen, she has nothing but love in her heart, she would rather be in your lap or right next to you than anywhere else in the house.
It will kill me when she leaves someday.
