Lennon began the song in 1976 with the title "Everybody's Talkin', Nobody's Talkin'" and figured he would give the song to Ringo Starr for Starr's next album...As he had always done for his friend, Lennon did a guide version in the studio,
Lennon was also going to give Ringo a country tune called "Life Begins at 40" as both he & Ringo hit that milestone in 1980; but after John's murder, the irony of the two songs was too depressing for Ringo and he didn't record them.

In 1984, Yoko Ono polished up John's best version of "Nobody Told Me" and it was released that year.
