About a month ago we moved from Belgium back to VA. We have been living in a hotel, having wayyyyyy too much family time Last night there was a big storm that came through....this morning we got a call stating our 100-200 year old oak tree fell through the roof in the dining room, kitchen, and garage.
We were planning to start moving some of your stuff in today (things we mailed back), start painting...things like that. Our tenants moved out last week, so no one was in the house...thank dog. So here we are, saying in the hotel longer...but I have to look at positives...no one was there, and I get a new kitchen.
I hope everyone is having a better day

(5,547 posts)It is one of the draw backs of having old growth foliage. Besides the damage to your house it is sad to lose a grand old tree like that.
But if it had to happen, it sounds like the timing is about as good as it was going to get.
Best of luck and good wishes that the rest of your day is better

(131,292 posts)Fortunately no such here in southern MD, but heard a lot of LOUD claps last night. All the trees (and 100+ year old house) appear to be OK.

(131,292 posts)and we have some really big and old trees here. Whole place would look different without them. One 'small' one came down due a storm last month, and the good part is it's 'removal' gave me a better view of sunrise (through my bedroom window.) Birds (osprey these days) like to perch on one of them, enables me to get pics. Neighbor/landlord thinks it might have to come down 'sometime,' hope not ON the house. Fingers crossed.

(60,010 posts)from insurance, all due to storm/tree damage.
most of the big trees around their house are gone now.
I know it is a major PITA to have to wait. Is insurance picking up your hotel bill since the damage?

(54,476 posts)Where in Virginia? My brother lives there, and I am wondering if he saw anything like that kind of a storm where he lives.
By the way, I'm in Belgium once a week for my work. The weather there isn't always very pleasant, either.
