I found a pack rat nest on my car's motor today.

The car was running weird so I pulled over and popped the hood.
A large amount of sticks and mesquite beans--some of the sticks
were a foot long. I cleaned it out and went home and hooked up the
air compressor and blew it out. Little bastards! It's a hazard where I
live and the cars and truck are parked outside. The only way to prevent
it is to leave your hood open.

2. I had a mouse ruin my truck's clutch.

It built a nest inside the bell housing, packing it with so much nesting material, that it jammed the pressure plated slightly disengaged and the clutch slipped so bad, I just barely got it to the garage. I took a chance and asked my insurance company if my comprehensive covered the repair because it was caused by an animal. They thought it over and did cover it, minus my deductible of course. I try not to park in the same spot for too long now.

5. Make sure they haven't chewed up any wires!

I've heard that can be a problem.

For some reason my husband likes to park my truck under the live oak near the house. Yeah, that means it's cooler when we need to drive it, but the squirrels think it is a great place to store acorns - which will soon be dropping all over. I thought my windshield washer wasn't working - the space in front of the windshield was packed with leaves and acorns! Once they were cleared out, no problem.

7. The pack rats got into my truck too last year.

I smelled smoke and it was from sticks on the manifold.
They had eaten a few wires, but when I checked, everything still
worked, lights and all. Out here in the country, if you park outside
in one place for too long, they will find you.

6. I have a friend who used to have a little Geo Metro ( the ones that rattle and shake at 50mp. )

Well, he found out there was a mouse in the Geo. So, what did he do? He took our cat and put him in the car for the night. Well, the cat caught the mouse. Pretty good huh? Well, just a few days later his car quit running and without skipping a beat an old friend told him that is what he gets for killing the engine.

I have a Smart car and get those "little" car jokes all the time. My mechanic told me one of the other Smarts they take care of has a license plate that says "3GERBILS"
