The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just ordered Willie Nelson's first album
being reissued on neat blue vinyl. I'd post a pic but my goto hosting service has been down for a week - tinypic being a tinydick.
I've written their help team 3 times now but no response.
I guess there's this but i hate not posting the picture...

(3,569 posts)Great book, better than his autobiography IMO. Details his fight to get his own voice out there, especially this record. How nobody liked his singing style, singing behind the meter, rather than being on top of it like everyone else. This is especially noticeable on this recording.
BTW, his son, Lukas is amazing as well. He has played in Willie's band since he could walk and showcases his guitar skills during "Texas Flood" or "The Sky Is Crying" during Willie's show. He has a great band, Promise of the Real, and they spent the last two years as Neil Young's band. He sings like his Dad, with a bit more growl, and plays blistering rock and roll. He is a great guitar player too and a true showstopper.

(12,132 posts)I saw them a little while back on one of the late night shows and have been waiting for them to tour here. Does he still play in Willie's band too? I'm seeing Willie in October and that would be extra bonus awesome.

(3,569 posts)At Sierra Nevada Brewery. A big band now, with keyboards, steel 🎸, and added percussion. Great show, Lukas acoustic for a few songs, then blaze your face. Nicki Bluhm, reminisent of Linda Rondstat, opened and sang "Crazy" in a duet with Lukas.
He still plays with Willie, as does the rest of the family. Some of his band, sister Bobbie especially, have been in his band for 60 years, or more. His harmonica player, Mickey Raphael, is my harmonica hero, I play like him, a country blues sound that few even try. My pal and fellow harp player, Homer Will, once played harmonica in Willie's band alongside Mickey. When asked how he could have two harp players in his band Willie said "if Bob Wills can have 2 steel guitar players, I can have 2 harmonica players".
Love Willie, an Epic Life indeed.
