trigger your interest in pursuing a particular career path that you otherwise wouldnt have thought about?
I often wonder how many scientists, doctors/nurses, lawyers, detectives, etc., were prompted to pursue certain careers as a result of a TV show that captured their imagination when they were young.

(52,438 posts)but after a paralyzing migraine kept me from studying for my freshman biology mid-term and i bombed that, i switched into economics, then later into computer science. i'm a sort of financial analyst now.
nowadays, if anyone was inspired to become a financial analyst due to a tv show or movie, that's probably a huge ethical red flag....

Years ago the Smothers Brothers had a song about "My Old Man" - and "someday I'm gonna' be the same.

(27,821 posts)... that led me to being a court reporter. I knew that I didn't want to be a lawyer - but I DID want to be in the courtroom, where I could be privy to all the goings-on and hear the arguments from both sides of an issue.
I wound up working as a court reporter for three decades - a job I loved every single day.

The only bad thing about it has been watching a Cheeto my age taking apart NOAA and the EPA regulations because the white trash POS can't get over his deep racist hate of everything Obama...including environmental protection.

(6,261 posts)I was hugely into the space race and astronomy as a kid, culminating into the near orgasmic joy of the moonlanding. I was so sure, certain even, that by the time I was really, really old, say 30 or so, I would be spending my holidays in fancy hotels on the moon and Mars.
Yes, it kicked off a huge interest in science, especially physics and astronomy, and lo! I became a computer programmer.
