Is it a difficult drive? On a Wed. evening middle of the month? In a rented car? How does it compare to driving to OBX? Or Myrtle Beach? Or downtown Cleveland, OH? Or Indianapolis?
I would prefer to take a shuttle, use public transportation to get arounf Newport, or walk, and rent a car just for one day in Newport, to go back to Providence for an appt. but my friend wants to rent a car. I like my driving better than I like her driving.
Any stories, tips, experiences are appreciated. Thanks!

(16,898 posts)Drive south on I-95, just south of the airport you'll see signs for a split, take the left...which is Route 4 East Greenwhich/Newport. Take Route 4 south, it connects with Hwy 1...the turn for Newport is just passed there, takes you over to Jamestown and then the Toll Bridge to Newport. It's a very easy drive and should take 30 mins or so with normal traffic. Is your trip before Labor Day? That would make for extra traffic with beach traffic, especially on the weekends. Enjoy RI, miss it terribly and have some great friends there.

(17,109 posts)Thank you for the reassurance We're going Wed. to Sun. Getting to the airport in the afternoon. Probably get on the road after 5:30. We've been friends since we were 5, but never on a vacation together. Not the purpose of this trip, but we realized we'll be celebrating 60 years of friendship this year. Hope you like where you are living.
