Is it me or are ads in movie theaters getting more obnoxious?

I just got back from seeing Star Trek: Beyond. Great movie, loved it, but god damn the ads are getting more and more obnoxious. "We have exclusive content from Chipotle and Dennys!". No, I don't give a flying fuck that you have that. And since when are Chipotle and Dennys content providers? And no I'm not going to "Shazam" for more. And I'm also not going to take your surveys or rate you.

They have a captive audience. We PAY to sit there. Capitalism is inescapable.

always has been. Hate to do a "good old days" bullshit comment, but they used to show us cartoons before movies.

I was watching one of the Harold and Kumar movies and they had like a 3 minute dialogue about a really expensive 3D TV and at the end of the scene one of the characters gives a thumbs up. Seriously just cut out the middle man and put a commercial in the movie at that point.

5. I'm old enough to remember when people complained about the commercials during previews

Now, commercials start as soon as the credits are done, and they run straight through until the next round of previews, and they're interspersed with the previews, too! A few local ads, but mostly national companies piping their sales pitch onto the big screen for us.

Anticipating a crowd, we arrived early for Finding Dory and were treated to 20 minutes of ads, followed by a point-by-point recap of those ads, in case we'd missed any of the ads while we were watching ads.

It's a pain in the ass, Maria Menounos notwithstanding.

It's Martin Short as his Jiminy Glick character and he says "Why do some people tune out?". I so want to tell that the next time I see those ads.

Both used to be pleasurable experiences. It has to be a pretty damned special movie for me to put up with going to a theater.

I can't tolerate the 20 minutes of junk before the actual movie starts. At least the seats and reserved ticketing are better.

If the theaters made us turn off our phones during the ads, you can guarantee that I won't be there. Because, fuck ads.

11. Fortunately I haven't seen stuff like that in our theatres here.

But then we only go to maybe 3 movies a year because the movies themselves are so awful these days.

Fortunately there is a cheapo day/night here, where both big theatres offer all movies for $5.50 or $6.00 to everyone.
That way at least you aren't resenting paying twice as much for a terrible experience.

Just saw Free State of Jones though. Good movie. Made me buy two books to read more about the real history.

Also saw Bryan Cranston playing a DEA agent in The Infiltrator. Not well done at all, IMHO
