National Escargot Day French for edible snails, Escargot were the first animals to be farmed by man; archaeological evidence has found traces of heliciculture going back thousands of years. They are consumed across the whole of what used to be the Roman Empire. Snails are an excellent form of protein, tasty, low in fat, and they cant run very fast. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/escargot-day/Brother's Day celebrates the bond between brothers an amazing gift and should be cherished. Take this day to make contact with your brother and tell him how much he means to you. Why not arrange to take your brother out for a meal and discuss your family memories? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/brothers-day/

(202,986 posts)I just hope he doesn't bring up the election, we try to avoid talking about politics, though it's kinda big news just now. My only brother thinks he's a well informed Republican, know he hates Trump, but I can't see him voting for a Democrat. The proverbial rock and a hard place, but I know he'd never admit that to me.

(38,958 posts)I know that the political stuff can somehow weave it's way into conversations and found that I fall back to discussing the process when that happens as opposed to viewpoints on candidates. It sometimes works, along the lines of "How do you think Trump made it through the field or how do you think the local stuff is going".
Mostly I let my thoughts be known and am happy that folks are involved with the process, even when they disagree with me.

(202,986 posts)It doesn't matter what I say and after 13 years on DU I can hold my own. But he believes he's more informed than anyone, having FOX News on most all of the time everyday. And if push comes to shove, he reminds me he has a Masters Degree in political science. I won't say in which state he got that degree, but it wasn't here in New York - or anywhere in the Northeast.

Off to another exciting episode of "one day closer to retirement.... "

And yes, that's my Barney. It's a photo of a photo, wasn't online back then, but I really wanted an online pic of him, he was such a remarkable dog.
Best wishes on your retirement! And all the more time for DU!
