Here's the First Look at Idris Elba as the Gunslinger in The Dark Tower (Original Post)

Glorfindel
(9,740 posts)1. A worthy actor, and I'm sure he'll do a great job
I loved the books and the character. The only problem I can think of, and it's minor, is that Mr. Elba is too good-looking. King always described the Gunslinger as "ugly." After "The Stand," the Dark Tower books are my favorite Stephen King novels, and I pretty much loved them all except "Insomnia," which I still think is the most boring book ever written.

Roland is not bad-looking in this painting:

This version of the Gunslinger is quite homely, and scary, too:

Odetta was described as being beautiful, and in the follow-up to The Drawing Of The Three, the artist made her that way.
But Phil Hale's Odetta was ugly.
