(10,164 posts)And they may well be their best yet (see below). I suspect a lot of folk dismiss them out of hand, thinking the maid costumes indicate the band is just a gimmick...and holy crap, are they missing out. The songwriting and musicianship these young women display is special.

(10,164 posts)Miku (the pigtailed vocalist/rhythm guitarist) jokes that she's a very basic guitarist and is learning from the lead player, Kanami. But the band's musical chops are top shelf.

(2,273 posts)There were some really good bands back in early 2000 of Japanese Metal and one was all girl. I need to see if I can dig out the CD but they were all one album then onto the next thing that was selling.

(10,164 posts)There are a few long(ish) term successes in "Girls Metal" like Aldious, G?lmet, and Cyntia, but even long-running Destrose seems to be no more, with members scattering to new projects (Mardelas, Fate Gear). Band-Maid will likely have staying power only if they can establish an audience outside Japan...and they're making every effort. A huge favorite of mine, Bridear, are touring in Germany right now (charming tour updates from several members on Twitter...). The latter have a shot at real longevity, due to both great powermetal songwriting and a world-class lead guitarist, but establishing a following outside of Japan may be key for them, too..

(41,869 posts)and though they are good, I prefer Band-made's musical talent. For a Jpop and a Pop sounding band I am totally in love with CHU's day and we chat on twitter!!

(7,655 posts)Thought I heard that lyric in the first track. Glad they spelled out "just breakin' new gate" LOL. Impressive musicianship and I don't mind the maid costumes...

(10,164 posts)Immaculate tone, too...
I'm a big, big fan, shred-wise, of Mitsuru (Bridear). In fact, she's probably my current favorite metal player in the world. Some of her solos on the latest album, Baryte, are simply world class.
