She ended up alone. The show ended with Diane slapping her for having Lucca bring up the fact that Diane's husband had an affair with the cute young thing that he sold his buisness to at a discount rate. Alicia then pulled herself together and walked down the hall.

Earlier in the episode you find out that Eli has talked Peter's donors into switching to Alicia. Eli hopes to get Alicia into politics which would turn her into the new Peter.

I don't think she would ever end up with Jason in the long term because I think that he liked her being tied to Peter because it left him free from being tied down.

Peter agreed to a deal that had him resign from office and do a year of probation. This would keep Grace from taking a year off from school and she could go to Berkley.

Season #05, the one in which Josh Charles left the series, was the best but also the peak in quality for “The Good Wife.”

Season #06 was a change in direction—the wrong direction. The series never recovered.

Season#07, the last, started out like “The Good Wife” was trying to refresh; but, it ran its course.

The CBS series is going out as it needs. To have come back for an eighth season would have triggered new producers, a different vision (likely not better and already with an aged series); and it could have become desperate. So, it’s better now than later.

Five good seasons (of a total seven) is not bad. I have given up some other well-reviewed and -regarded comedy and drama series after their Seasons #01 or #02.

Looks like Alicia ends up with no husband, no boyfriend, no friend in Diane, her son ran off to France, her daughter's going to college. She's all alone.

No way she runs for governor. But we'll never know, will we.

I'd heard the ending was "controversial" but I found this ending satisfying. It left some uncertainty about who might end up where and why, but it showed Alicia given strong opportunities to understand herself and her priorities, with a likelihood that she'd taken in some of the possible lessons to at least some degree; and I felt the behavior of the other characters was also consistent with their respective psychologies.

I agree that the series suffered a bit in the middle seasons.
