A couple of quotations I thought were from Samuel JOHNSON but weren't
I sent a link to pals of a song with a fantastic instrumental solo, which was all that made the song. But included the lyrics just for tying loose ends, saying that I hardly ever care about lyrics, quoting "What is too silly to be said is sung," which I thought was from Dr JOHNSON. Then it turned up being MISattributed to VOLTAIRE. *And* the bonus quote about sex, which I had also thought was from Dr J. turned out to be somebody else's!1
HE DIDN'T SAY THESE THINGS!1

MISattributed to VOLTAIRE:
Anything that is too stupid to be spoken is sung.
Who really said it: Pierre DE BEAUMARCHAIS, Le Barbier de Seville (1775), act II, scene I
Nowadays what isn't worth saying is sung (Aujourd'hui ce qui ne vaut pas la peine d'etre dit, on le chante)
Who really said it: Earl of Chesterfield
Sex: The pleasure is momentary, the position ridiculous, and the expense damnable.
