The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsGoFundMe for my father
I'm not really sure, how is acceptable to ask for help. My father has Spinal Stenosis, bulging and disintegrated discs in his back, and chronic pain. He is an Air Force Veteran during the 80s. We're in the middle of a whole house remodel, and he is the type that wants to do everything himself. We, his family, decided to try to get help for him, regardless.
Every morning he wakes up, unable to completely stand up straight for 30 minutes because of the pain. Yet he still works 3 jobs and pushes himself to do the remodel.
We just want to help him relax a bit more and perhaps hire someone to help with the house work or pay medical bills. We want to finish for a family christmas party this year, but between his medical bills, and everything else, its gotten almost to a standstill.
I hate asking for anything, much less charity. But I figured DU has been good to me in the past, maybe things can happen.
Thanks guys. Any amount if anything is ok. The total for the GFM is just a number we decided on that would greatly alleviate things around the house.

It's good you haven't posted there yet, though, due to the primaries. It may still get lost even today, but keep bumping it. Far more DUers check GD than they do the Lounge (we're often seen as the ill-begotten stepchilds of DU)

(1,827 posts)That two teenage girls can get 1000 bucks for a car, but I can't get 100 for my dad. It's been depressing, seeing him not being the superman i grew up with. I've tried posting everywhere I can. I just don't have alot of friends or connections.
Also I apologize if I've been insistent with kicking this thread. I don't know what else to do.

(872 posts)I finally realized I have to farm various kinds of work out. If your dad wants to be around for the long term, he likely has to do that. It's accepting being older and not physically perfect.

(1,827 posts)Comes to the remodel. Plus it has to be finished before halloween. We would have been alot farther along if not for medical bills and the fact he can't move as well.

Also why not ask Skinner if you can post this in GD? I haven't been to the lounge in quite a while and just decided that tonight was the night.

(1,827 posts)If so thank you very much.
I wanted to keep my word since I said I'd do it today. I usually try to stay anonymous but since you asked me... Hugs to you and your dad and you're very welcome.
