Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsStarted feeding my cats all meat dry cat food. No grains or fillers. My one cat's hairballs have
stopped. Both are looking lean and fit. Sure it is more expensive. But I'm never going back to cat food filled with fillers again. And I had been buying the expensive cat food at a pet store for years. This all meat dry is the even more expensive stuff off to the side at the pet store.

(36,827 posts)Which isn't surprising since I don't know of any dry pet food for dogs or cats that's 100% meat. That's not entirely a bad thing as some carbs are OK for cats and dogs, but you want a high protein content and the more expensive pet foods tend to have much more protein.

(118,880 posts)He listed off the top 5 ingredients that were all meat....so I thought. Anyhow. I'm sold.

(36,827 posts)I use Orijen for my dogs. It's also made in Canada and the first 5 ingredients are all meat.
One thing about high protein pet foods is that you really need to regulate how much you give them or there's a good chance they can get overweight. I feed my dogs twice per day and measure out how much they get. When I take them to the vet they get weighed and I adjust their intake accordingly.

(21,863 posts)Its website lists where you can buy it. Unfortunately, no store near me has it. If it's that good, a nearby store should stock it soon.
Glad to hear your cats are doing so well.

(32,099 posts)My kitty also gets a small can of wet food. She's a bit pudgy, but she has the shiniest coat around.
They need to stop putting grains and other fillers in cat food. I'm convinced that's what is causing the rise in feline diabetes. Their systems are not used to being fed cattle feed.

(118,880 posts)store bought food is not what we fed our cats in the 1970s. What we fed our cats in the 1970s is probably going into hot dogs that we eat. It is one of my big pet peeves. I swear some day I'm going to open a grocery store called "Throwback" and sell coca cola made with cane sugar, meat that is hung, strub's pickles and other such quality things. It'll be a hit.

(17,049 posts)until I started with Grain Free food. Yes, it is more expensive but my savings is in no more ear infections!
I agree, grain free is the way to go. I feed my babies Wellness.

(55,027 posts)pricey, but I swear a bag lasts forever, and yeah the savings in vet bills - that is what people have trouble grasping. all those skin problems go away when you feed them better.

(12,655 posts)grains and cats are not a good mix. companies like them because they are cheap and customers like to pay less. but in terms of obesity, chronic health problems, stomach issues, etc, it really is pay now for better food or pay later at the vet.

(118,880 posts)at the time. Monster didn't make it. Since then I've been buying food at the petstore. Now I'm upping it again to grain free. 3 times as expensive as what you get a the grocery store but worth every penny.

(65,334 posts)This one has urinary pH regulation as well, so our one kitty who was prone to UTI stopped having a problem.
It's probably 75 or 80% more, but keeps the vet visits down a lot.

(32,118 posts)I feed no-grain Fromms to mine. One has a sensitive stomach so that's what started it. Now I look for grain-free treats too. It's more expensive but they do eat less of it and their fur is beautiful.
