(12,881 posts)Many people who combine their love of nature & photography spend countless hours and tremendous effort to be in the right place at the right time to capture an image like that.

(18,219 posts)but I am positive that it is photoshopped. The birch trees are a nice way to highlight the markings on the Snowy Owl, but it was not originally in the background, also, the eyes should not be blue. But it is interesting to put it with the birch trees.

News of the discovery here (today's date, LOL!): http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/17/new-owl-species-philippines_n_1797595.html
Some sources describe the color as blue-grey ... but looks pretty blue to me.
This does seem to be the first blue-eyed owl species reported, AFAICT.

Swan family... Mom, Pop + little ones
Gorgeous blue-eyed owl
Tiger diving into river (What a photo!)
Sweet, mournful-looking, senior-citizen dog gazing at cat who's taken over his/her dog bed (LOL)
Baby elephant in mud
