3. Differences between geeks, nerds, dweebs, and dorks

I have always heard that many people are geeks. Someone intelligent with one or more singe-minded obsessions like playing violin or tap dancing would be a geek. Geeks can be very sociable when they are not off by themselves studying their obsessive hobby. Geeks supposedly can circulate among the popular kids in high school but they are still considered geeks.

Nerds supposedly are highly intelligent and have intellectual obsessions like science, math or computers but are pretty socially awkward. They're the pocket protector class who seem to only socially relate to other nerds and who sit at the nerd table in high school at lunch time.

Dweebs supposedly are studious but do not have obsessions or skills for doing something like nerds or geeks. They are socially inept and don't even relate to other dweebs but are loners.

Dorks are at the bottom of the totem pole, with little intelligence, with bizarre obsessive hobbies or skills like knitting or collecting tin foil, and do not relate socially to others, even other dorks.

I've also heard the nerd-geek definitions reversed, contrary to this Venn diagram (geeks are the pocket protector class while nerds can socially relate when they're not pursuing their nerdy obsession).

Taller than 99% of the human race and white male in the U.S.A. too.

Fortunately for my soul I've always proven myself to be a complete idiot in all venal pursuits.

It's clear to all I find insects and gardening and dumpster diving to be far more interesting than money.

I read comics, I'm teaching myself Java coding, I still have Magic the Gathering cards, I can see my copy of Lord of the Rings along with the Hobbit from where I'm sitting.

I can be socially awkward, I generally prefer the company of four legged creatures than other people.

I'm a nerd through and through.

Both our daughters arrived last night, so now I'm drowning in beautiful women.

There are worse ways to spend a vacation....

"So go ahead, put us down
"One of these days we will turn it around
"Won't be long, mark my words
"Time has come for Revenge of the nerds!"

I like to do "nerdy" things like gaming and commenting on Internet forums, I don't have many friends, I went to the prom alone, I rarely get to go out on weekends and school breaks, I don't drink or do drugs, and I'm shy around women. OTOH, I do things outside of traditional nerdom. I don't wear my pants jacked up like Urchel, I don't like school, I follow sports, I have mostly rap on my iPod and wear clothes that are popular within that culture, I know what much of today's slang means, and I work out almost everyday and am somewhat athletic. I also used to hang around with nerds, jocks, and popular kids in high school. There's no one spot where I fit.
