I admit, I have no tattoos, but I've seen many that were beautuful. Then there are the ones that make me scratch my head. Here are my candidates:

4. When my wife was an E.R. nurse......

a guy came in who'd been in a motorcycle crash. They cut his pants off and since he wasn't wearing any shorts, his junk was hanging out for all to see. He had 4 cherries tattooed on his penis.

Were they regrettable? Who knows? I thought I'd just pass on the story since the topic of tattoos came up.

You'll find plenty of pics of tattooed junk AND tattoos of penises. Considering there's always a chance of infection with any tattoo (or piercings) I cannot imagine a man risking such a precious organ.

17. I used to work at Whole Foods in Austin

I was one of the few employees that was ink free. But one time, back in 2004, I had to spend one night in jail. That meant NO PRIVACY. Common showers, toilet out in the open. There were probably 30 women in the holding cell, and we were there for over 12 hours.. I was the only one who had no tattoos. I was 47 at the time and I wasn't the oldest one there. So one thing I knew was that I would never ever get a tattoo.

No tattoos for me, ever, ever, ever. My body modification is limited to ear piercing, and I thought I was really living on the wild side when I got a third site in my left ear at age 60 so I could wear an additional diamond stud - the drama of asymmetry! My husband and sons didn't even notice for 4 days.

Must be a generational thing, I was 40 when I got my third on just one ear. I stopped wearing them a couple years ago but I think I'll live dangerously and put them back in a few months when I turn 60. And maybe have a tattoo put on with henna. Some of those are quite lovely, the best thing is they are non permanent.

23. When I lived in Key West,

one of the maintenance guys in our building showed me his back tattoo.

He was a large man with a large back, and on it was an entire diorama of 9/11. Had the buildings on fire...people jumping, smoke, firefighters...

I was so astounded I don't remember what I said.
