Yep, I've been Rick-Rolling people with my Uke lately.
It's pretty fun.

(12,132 posts)Not even a little bit ashamed about anything I like. If something strikes my fancy then it strikes my fancy. I like indigenous folk music and bubblegum pop. I'm All About That Bass and all about that 1812 Overture. Napalm Death and Jungle Rot and Rotting Christ live on my play list along side Gaga and the Monkees and Cyndi Lauper. I've seen Alabama live and I've seen Absu live and loved them both. If I'm in line at the grocery store and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass comes on the overhead, I will samba bittersweetly right in that queue.
But I will make all kinds of fun of the stupid shit other people like.

(63,926 posts)I loved it when my rather snobbish son and dtr in law, who are really picky about music and often play and perform, put down the Bee Gees. Only to find out that their little baby son rocked out to "Stayin' Alive" in his high chair one day. They were somewhat taken aback. I relished saying "I told you so."
pipi_k
(21,020 posts)a similar thing happen with my youngest sister.
I've always made fun of John Denver. One day my mom told me that my sister could only get her daughter to calm down and go to sleep by playing John Denver songs.
I (jokingly) said my sister was guilty of child abuse.

(33,688 posts)I grew up with "classic rock" and it is my musical home. I also enjoy more or less all classical music from the Baroque through Vaughan Williams. I like 1950s and 1960s post-bop jazz. I love English electric folk-rock.
But this absolutely makes me swoon. I keep telling myself it's the godlike bass guitar of Rutger Gunnarsson.
It's probably as much Agnetha (the Most Utterly Perfect Swedish Blonde Ever) as Rutger. OK it's mostly Agnetha, and that soaring modulation in the chorus.

(66,522 posts)I don't understand the absolute gutter loathing people have for this song. I would be the first to agree it's no feather in the caps of the gang who used to be Jefferson Airplane. But it's a catchy tune celebrating rock and roll (which admittedly, this song isn't) and San Francisco. I used to love it when it came on the radio back in the '80's.
femmocrat
(28,394 posts)It is catchy!
cemaphonic
(4,138 posts)It's also a Bernie Taupin song, and while he's written a lot of great lyrics, he's also written dozens that are worse than "We Built This City."
KamaAina
